Twenty young adults were trained at Matjhabeng House of Prayer to become youth workers at schools and in their churches at the end of 2006. At the beginning of 2007 nine of these youth workers were placed in local schools. Through the youth workers, we as intercessors were exposed to the overwhelming needs of the schools and started a feeding scheme for 80 learners of the over 400 orphans at Thotagauta High school which has a capacity of 1,300 learners.

We were becoming the answer to our own prayers. We also encouraged the orphans weekly through prayer and motivational talks. January 2008 the project was extended to another school: Lebogang High school. We depend on donations from the community and in this manner try to involve them in the project. Due to the generosity of the community we were fortunate to give blankets and toiletries from time to time. Most of the orphans stay with family, foster parents and a great percentage are child-headed homes. The circumstances of these learners are heartbreaking but we can testify of wonderful changes at both schools and in the lives of these individuals since the project began.

The aim of this project is to establish a workable model to extend to the other schools in our area and for other communities to adopt this model. The HIV/Aids statistics are very high in our communities in South Africa; no orphanage is big enough to accommodate them all. The idea is to help and support them where they are so they can become law-abiding citizens with good moral conscience, attaining proper life skills to function in their society.
