On 15 May 2005 millions of Christians from 156 nations all over the world united in the first ever Global Day of Prayer. Christians gathered in different venues seeking God’s face in repentance and prayer for the transformation of their communities and nations. The dream is to mobilize Christians from every single nation in the world to participate in this event over the next few years until 2010.Christians in Matjhabeng have participated in this national event since 2003 and the Matjhabeng House of Prayer is responsible for the arrangements of these events. Various events have been held in Welkom: North West Stadium 2003 where all the different towns of Matjhabeng (i.e. Welkom, Virginia, Odendaalsrus, Hennenman, Ventersburg and Allanridge ) were represented by over 3,000 people: Thabong ,Zuka Baloi Stadium 2004; Bronville stadium 2005; Riebeeckstad High school Stadium 2006; In 2007 the Global day of prayer was hosted in 5 different churches throughout the entire community.Other than Welkom, Odendaalsrus and Kutlwanong are the only towns that host the Global Day of Prayer on a regular basis. We had one communal event for the whole community in 2008 and plan two events for 2009 : A youth event of all night prayer and an event to be held on the afternoon of 31 May.
