On Friday 14th March 2008 the Christian leaders of Welkom launched a six month “City Wide” prayer initiative in Central Park Welkom. This project stemmed from their concern for the problems and challenges our community and country are facing.

It was be a time of calling out to God for His grace and mercy. Christian Churches, businesses and the whole community of Matjhabeng took part in the initiative and members of the different churches were mobilized to pray in their churches during the six month period. Once a month the pastors and community met for prayer in the city center for a period of six months. There was also a Lunch hour of Prayer held in the city centre from Mondays to Fridays for the working people. Some businessmen came together to pray during lunch hour on Wednesdays at the Matjhabeng House of Prayer as a spin off of this initiative and although the initial initiative is over they still continuing to meet and pray.
