The Prayer Network in Welkom PDF Print E-mail
History:

The mission of the interdenominational prayer network in Welkom is simple: To mobilise every church in our area to become a House of Prayer, to establish the four prayer altars:
individual, home, church and the community prayer altar and to address the needs of our communities. Our vision is to see people coming to the Lord and our community changed by the power of prayer.

By God’s grace since the founding days in 1996, this vision/mission has gained momentum, resulting in a spiritual prayer revival previously unknown in Welkom.

In August 1996, the Lord laid on the hearts of a few ladies in Welkom to start an interdenominational prayer group. After much prayer and seeking the Lord for a month, He released us to submit the vision to all the spiritual leaders of Welkom.

Appointments were made with all the pastors and by God’s grace; the Goldfields Christians Leaders Fellowship has already been in existence since April 1996. The vision was shared and we received their permission to go ahead.

God gave us favour with the leaders and we praise God for a ministry that is going from strength to strength. Sometimes it feels as though we are sitting on the sidewalk while God is doing all the work because He is so in control! It is a  possess and we learn more and more everyday.

We believe in the strength of co-operate prayer .We therefore had several prayer community actions, including a prayer chain, prayers for our city’s leaders, for the city council, corporate prayer events in the city centre, 24/7 prayer rallies and many more. A few conferences on prayer and other topics were held and that gave momentum to prayer in our city.

A big event on the calendar of the ministry was 2 November 2002 when we moved into our house. Matjhabeng House of Prayer is situated in the middle of the city. Matjhabeng is the name of our municipal area which consists of six towns namely; Welkom, Virginia, Odendaalsrus, Hennenman, Ventersburg and Allanridge, Matjhabeng is an indigenous word meaning “to bring people together” and this enhance prophetically our vision. The house was financed by donations from the community. The purpose of the house was to create a place where people from the community can pray and to establish 24/7 prayer.
A miracle happened in October 2004. God called twelve intercessors to full time prayer at MHOP. They were divided in three-hour timeslots to cover 24 hours. These intercessors were faithful praying continually for one year. Presently we have five full time prayers who take slots of three hours a day and an average of hundred individuals and groups per month that pray randomly.
By God’s leading and teaching, we have learnt the following:
  • Patience – it takes time.
  • Perseverance – push through! Do not give up!
  • Change is a process.
  • Accept, respect and enjoy the variety of people God created.
  • Be willing to lay down your life.
We want to give God all honour and praise. He deserves the Glory!
